COVID-19 case in Wiikwemkoong First Nation

Wiikwemkoong First Nation on Manitoulin says there is a COVID-19 case in the community and has closed all of its schools to in-person learning until January 7th as a precaution.

Chief Duke Peltier says there was a positive COVID-19 test result confirmed in the community on December 12th.

He adds Public Health Sudbury & Districts also announced that there has been a positive COVID-19 case in the Manitoulin District.

The chief says the person is self-isolating, and contact tracing for the individual occurred as soon as the positive result was made known.

And he adds due to the confirmed positive COVID-19 case, the First Nation has closed all of its schools and is supporting virtual learning only until January 7.
Peltier says all in-person community programming has also been canceled until January 7.
