By Rosalind Russell – Independence, innovation and community spirit were all a big part of a 50th Anniversary Community Celebration on the Whitefish River First Nation November 25th.
The community of Birch Island came together to honour their own band administration paying special attention to the staff – past and present.
Algoma-Manitoulin Kapuskasing Carol Hughes also attended to offer congratulations on behalf of the federal government.
“It was a honour to celebrate with the WRFN community the Golden anniversary of their Administration,” said Hughes. “Since taking over the direct responsibilities of their administration, WRFN has thrived and has been extremely progressive in moving projects forward and in delivering quality services to their members.
“I congratulate them and wish them much success in the years ahead.”
The community celebrated the anniversary of their community administration with presentations to the staff and acknowledgement of their role in helping grow the First Nation.
The day capped off with the Annual Woodland Christmas Parade.
