CT scanner fundraising complete – new model being set up

Work is underway at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake for the new CT scanner suite on the hospital’s ground floor and the fundraising exceeded expectations.

Hospital board chair William Elliott told city council Monday the foundation has raised $1.8 million, $200,000 over their original goal and that means the best machine on the market will be housed in the hospital.

Hospital CEO Pierre Ozolins also told council that the machine will assist an average of 2,000 patients a year once it is up and running by late summer.

He adds they received three requests for proposals and have finalized their choice, but he is not able to discuss the price or model as stipulated by the Ministry of Health.
