Espanola Boy Fighting Cancer Once Again

By Rosalind Russell – The hockey community and Espanola are pulling together to help a family facing a serious medical situation once again.
Around&About reported in late January that nine-year-old Blake Bond of Espanola had rung the bell declaring him cancer free for the last three years.
However, tests in mid-February showed he has been diagnosed with another type of cancer: AML, acute myeloid leukemia – a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. and he is once again facing treatment.
Blake had been originally diagnosed with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, ALL, a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many immature lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell). Leukemia may affect red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
The Espanola Eagles and Express, Sudbury Wolves and Toronto Maple Leafs made a YouTube video supporting Blake who loves hockey and released it on March 1st to encourage Blake in his battle.
Travelling to Sudbury and Ottawa will mean the family will incur costs not covered by any programs.
Direct donations can be made to the Team Blake account at Espanola’s TD Bank.
