Espanola Lions Club enters agreement with town for ice oval maintenance

Espanola Council has unanimously agreed to enter a partnership agreement with the Espanola Lions Club for preparing and maintaining the Skating Oval adjacent to the complex.

Mayor Jill Beer says the agreement provides the terms of partnership which enables the Espanola Lions volunteers to maintain the site while meeting certain obligations such as insurance, police checks and safety gear.

She also says the agreement is for three years and it is the final say of Public Works as to whether the ice is safe for public use and all COVID-19 protocols must be maintained.

Beer adds council also agreed to donate to the Lions to supplement the additional cost of insurance as required by the municipality at a maximum of $340 per year.
