Grant funding will be used for fire department improvements

Elliot Lake’s Fire Chief John Thomas says a grant will be utilized to assist the fire department with its continued training.

Thomas says the department qualified for a $7,200 grant from the province, offsetting the loss of the Ontario Fire Training College.

Thomas asked council for approval to spend $500 on Wi-Fi and $4,500 to go towards three tablets to assist in virtual learning strategies for the department.

Thomas asked for the remaining  $,2,200 to be set aside for offsetting the costs of training in North Bay.

Council approved his request.
