Manitoulin Phragmites Project cleans up plenty of sites

The Manitoulin Phragmites Project had a successful 2021, cleaning up several sites throughout Manitoulin Island.

Coordinator Judith Jones says Phragmites is a very tall, invasive grass that has been spreading

aggressively on shorelines and in wetlands throughout the Island.

In year six of the project, she says the goal is to reduce Phragmites to a low level that can be maintained by people with a little bit of effort.

She adds they also assessed new areas that will be their focus next year.
