NEMI Mayor closes facilities and cancels events due to COVID-19

Following the measures put in by Public Health & Sudbury Districts, the mayor of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands says the recreational centre is closed and events are cancelled immediately.

Mayor Al McNevin says he has been informed that there are several new cases in local sports teams, residents and schools.

He says the spread is concerning, so the municipality has shut down the recreation centre until November 18th.

McNevin says council will continue to monitor the situation and follow the guidelines set forth by Public Health adding he has also directed staff to re-evaluate the closures on an ongoing basis so activities can be reinstated as soon as possible.
