Funeral for Toronto police officer today

A funeral will be held today for a Toronto police officer killed in the line of duty.

Investigators say Constable Jeffrey Northrup was deliberately run down last week, while responding to reports of a robbery at an underground parking lot at Toronto City Hall.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder.

Wildfire danger is high in B.C.

The number of wildfires continues to grow in British Columbia, with more than 300 now burning in the province.

There are 25 fires of concern, which may threaten public safety.

Fire crews won’t be getting relief from the weather anytime soon.

Forecasters are predicting hot, dry weather across most of the province, at least until Thursday.

Meantime, the federal government has imposed restrictions on Canada’s railways in zones where the wildfire threat is high.

Trains will have to run at reduced speeds, and railway companies will have to take more measures to reduce the threat that their rolling stock might set off new fires.
