(NAIRN-HYMAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – On August 1, 2020, at approximately 9:44 p.m. members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver in Nairn-Hyman Township.
The vehicle was located driving erratically on Highway 17, and police initiated a traffic stop. Officers conducted a mandatory alcohol screening (MAS) test which resulted in a ”Fail”. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Espanola OPP detachment for further testing.
A subsequent search was conducted and police located suspected Percocet tablets with an estimated street value of $310.00 and a quantity of alcoholic beverages.
As a result of the investigation, David BRADY, 68-years-old, of Sudbury was charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and
- Driving a Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.
The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on October 5, 2020.
The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
