Local optometrists’ phones were ringing of the hook today following news eye tests are once again available.
The offices are setting up appointments for people who need an eye exam which is covered by OHIP.
The move comes after the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Ministry of Health agreed to head back to the bargaining table.
As a sign of good faith, the association paused its job action, which means people in Ontario who are 19 and under, 65 and older, and others who have specific health conditions can get their annual eye exams done as well as other services.
The exams and other services covered by OHIP were dropped by optometrists on September 1st after talks about reimbursing the doctors for their services stalled.
It’s expected the negotiations will get started again soon.
