Proof of vaccination requirements extended by PHSD

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is introducing additional measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.

On Monday, Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Penny Sutcliffe issued an updated measure under the provincial Reopening Ontario Act for just the City of Greater Sudbury and anyone accessing organized sports.

The agency is now extending those measures to anyone 12 years of age and older across the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts who actively participate in organized sports, not just coaches and officials.

She adds effective at 12:01 am this coming Monday participants will be required to provide proof of vaccination unless a medical exemption applies.

Dr. Sutcliffe points out the proof of vaccination requirement for those participating in organized sport does not apply to school sports (intermural or interschool) unless these sports are being played in a non-school recreational facility.

The agency is reporting 270 active cases.

Health Sciences North says it has 46 admitted patients, 20 who have tested positive with one individual in ICU and the rest awaiting test results.

Meanwhile Algoma Public Health is also reporting an increase, 25 new cases alone yesterday bringing the Algoma District to 90 active cases.

Five people are currently hospitalized within their jurisdiction.
