Protests continue in the United States

News agencies estimate about ten-thousand people have been arrested by police, as protests continue in cities and towns across the United States.

The demonstrations come in the wake of last week’s death of a Minneapolis black man while being detained by police.

George Floyd died after a white officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes, despite his pleas that he couldn’t breathe.

President Donald Trump is coming under increasing criticism for his decision to walk from the White House to a nearby church on Monday, to have his photo taken while holding a bible.

Priests and seminarians at St. John’s Episcopal Church says officers fired tear gas and swept through the grounds of the church itself, as they cleared a path for the President.

They had been handing out water and snacks to those protesting in front of the White House.

The Bishop of the Washington Episcopal diocese says she’s outraged by Trump’s use of the church for what she calls, a photo-op.
