Remembering 9/11 19 years ago

There will be muted ceremonies across the U-S today, to mark the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that left almost three-thousand people dead.

The COVID-19 pandemic has curtailed official commemorations, with two small events being held in New York City, where two hijacked aircraft crashed into the World Trade Centre, bringing down the twin towers.

But the two beams of light that traditionally evoke the tragedy at the site will shine out, after public outrage forced officials to reconsider their decision to shut them down this year.

There will also be a small ceremony at the Pentagon, and at the Flight 93 memorial in rural Pennsylvania.
