Several elementary schools from the Sudbury and Algoma districts will be taking part in the regional cardboard boat races in Espanola next week. The competition, organized by Skills Canada, will be taking place at A.B. Ellis School on Tuesday January 29. Each participating team, made up of 4 grade 7 and 8 students, will be required to build a cardboard boat on site. They will then be evaluated on the design and construction quality of their boats as well as on teamwork, organization, security, creativity, team spirit and on vessel speed and resistance. The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) will be well represented with twelve teams from six schools including École Saint-Joseph (Espanola), École Ste-Marie (Azilda), École Georges-Vanier (Elliot Lake), École Saint-Joseph (Blind River), École St-Antoine (Noëlville) and École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford).
