Tax collection modified in Elliot Lake

The City of Elliot Lake is waiving interest and penalties for taxes and water as part of the city’s COVID-19 strategy.

City CAO Daniel Gagnon says the fees will be waived to alleviate financial stress on residents and businesses.

He says, for example, commercial metered water fees were to be paid by March 23rd, but with businesses closing down due to the coronavirus, the city will not apply the additional fees.

Gagnon adds this also applies to municipal taxes with the first installment due on April 4th.

However, he says, payments can still be made by cheque in the city drop-box, by regular mail or online.

Gagnon stresses city staff will also work with ratepayers to develop payment plans.

Payment can be made via cheque in the City drop box or regular mail, online banking, telebanking, or pre-authorized payment. Pre-authorized payment forms are available for download on the City’s website and can be scanned and emailed or dropped in the city drop box.
