Town of Espanola renames ball field in honour of Roberta Vincent

Despite heavy rain, the Mayor of Espanola and family members of Roberta Vincent were on site for the dedication of the “B” Softball Diamond in her memory.

The renaming of the field in her honour was held on Saturday at the Red McCarthy Memorial Ball Field, Pavilion & Soccer Field.

Espanola Council approved the dedication in late 2020 and due to provincial COVID restrictions, delayed the ceremony until now.

For more than 25 years Vincent was an integral part of women’s softball in Espanola, served several terms as President of the Espanola Women’s Softball League and coached hundreds of young women in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

She passed away in April of 2011.
