Two Sudbury long-term care facilities cancel PPE fees

Two NDP MPPs from the Sudbury area led a push against the owners of two long-term facilities in the city that were planning to implement a fee this March.

Gelinas says back in December they received many calls from residents of The Walford and The Lasalle retirement homes in Greater Sudbury in early December complaining about an increase of $106 per month for what was being called an “Enhanced Health and Safety Protection fee”, which was to be implemented in March.

However, following pressure from their offices, residents and family members, the company, Oxford Living Corporation, notified Gelinas on Tuesday that the fee increase has been cancelled.

Gelinas adds many of the residents are on fixed incomes and couldn’t afford to boost an already profitable bottom line under the guise of such a fee.
