Volunteers Required for an Espanola Recreation & Culture Advisory Committee

By Rosalind Russell – The Town of Espanola is looking for members of the public to sit on the new Espanola Recreation & Culture Advisory Committee.
According to the posting at espanola.ca, this committee will serve to strengthen and increase recreation and cultural opportunities, and strive to improve the quality of life and experience for all residents and visitors.
Recreation and culture is broadly defined to include sport, arts and culture, indoor and outdoor leisure, festivals and community events.
The new committee is one of the many recommendations made within the new 10 Year Recreation Plan, which passed into law in the fall of last year.
Members must reside in Espanola.
To the greatest extent possible, public representation will be multi-sectored and include representation from the following stakeholder groups:
• Youth (13-18 yrs)
• Health Promotion (i.e. FHT, Health Unit, Mental Health)
• Minor Sports (i.e. hockey, soccer, minor ball, skating)
• Special Events (i.e. experience in organizing cultural, athletic or artistic events)
• Culture (theatre, choir, music)
• Seniors (55+)
• First Nations
• Not for profit Recreational Service (Golf Club, Ski Club, Curling)
• Private sector (i.e. personal trainers, class instructors, bowling alley)
• Library volunteer (board member or Friends of the Library)
One member of council will sit on the committee and be considered a voting member.
Application forms are available at the Municipal Office or can be downloaded from the website: espanola.ca
The deadline is April 12, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
