By Rosalind Russell – The Algoma District School Board has passed its budget for the 2022-2023 school year.
Budget committee chair Susan Thayer says the total budget is estimated at nearly $183-million dollars. She says while this year presented challenges, the committee worked diligently to ensure instruction, operations and finances were maintained, monitored and adapted as necessary.
Thayer says the budget includes special education funding of almost $24 million and an accumulated surplus of $479,000 adding they have projected an enrolment increase, which ensures the budget is balanced while also ensuring services, staff and programming are available.
