Blind River students get busy to protect bats

By Rosalind Russell – Students at a Blind River high school are taking part in a project to help the local bat population along the sections of the Trans Canada Trails that run through the local area.

Mississauga First Nation economic development officer Jon Cada says the project is a partnership between the First Nation, the Town of Blind River, and WC Eaket Secondary School.

He says the Trans Canada Trail organization awarded the partners the funding to complete the project adding 31 new bat boxes are being built from Canadian-sourced white pine and decorated by students.

The boxes will be installed in early Spring.
