By Rosalind Russell – July 1st was a special day for many of the people on Manitoulin Island with a marina renamed in honour of the late Manitoulin OPP Constable Marc Hovingh.
The Township of Assiginack hosted the dedication of the renaming of the marina in Manitowaning to the River Road Marina in memory of Hovingh.
According to the release, River Road is the name of Marc’s sailboat.
Following the dedication, the public shared in a light lunch and socialized with his family.
Hovingh, a 28-year veteran of the police force, was killed in the line of duty, while investigating a trespassing complaint in Gore Bay.
