Cause of rowhouse fire still unknown, but deemed non-suspicious

The investigation into a fire that led to eight families being removed from their homes continues.

Elliot Lake Fire Chief John Thomas says the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has yet to release an official ruling on the cause of a fire, which occurred on May 18th and damaged eight units in a rowhouse complex on Valley Crescent.

He says damage is estimated at $600,000 with one unit gutted, another receiving heavy fire, smoke and water damage and the rest incurring smoke and some water damage.

He says the eight families are not allowed back in as yet and has no timeline for when that will, or even if, that will happen.

Thomas stresses the fire is not deemed to be suspicious in any way and the investigation continues.
