Cyber incident leads to closure of English Catholic schools

By Rosalind Russell – English Catholic schools in the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board including Sacred Heart in Espanola and St. Mary in Massey were closed yesterday afternoon due to a cyber incident that affected their communication systems in their schools yesterday afternoon.
Education director, Danny Viotto, says upon the discovery, they immediately took steps to secure their network and retained expert assistance, and are in the process of investigating and understanding the full impact.
He adds since their communications systems such as telephones and P.A. Systems have been affected, all staff and students were sent home and all classes cancelled today, resuming in the New Year on Tuesday, January 3rd.
Viotto adds the IT team is investigating the incident and more information will be released soon.

All French Catholic schools remain open today, even those in shared settings.
