Darla Hennessey honoured by Elliot Lake Rotary Club

By Rosalind Russell – A long-time citizen and active volunteer of the community of Elliot Lake was presented with a special honour this week.

The Rotary Club held a dinner this Tuesday evening to honour Darla Hennessey with the Paul Harris Fellow Annual Award, which not only recognizes contributions to the club, but also to the wider community.

Rotarian Tim Phelan spoke of Hennessey’s work, not only as a volunteer, but as an employee with the city as an event coordinator for 23 years until she retired just over a year ago.

He says that legacy includes her work as curator of the Elliot Lake Nuclear and Mining Museum Board, and overseeing annual events, such as the Uranium Heritage Festival, Canada Day and more.

Hennessey says it was an honour to be recognized by the club while also acknowledging the support of many volunteers and service clubs who have also made the events the success they’ve become.
