By Rosalind Russell – This year the directors of the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank have made the decision to cancel the annual Christmas hamper that was distributed to anyone who registered.
According to the release from the board of directors, while the food bank recognizes the difficulty this places on some, their main concern is the 200 families and other agencies that assist to fulfill their mission to feed the hungry.
Instead, this year clients will receive bag(s) depending on the size of the family that will contain the food products to make a Christmas Dinner.
The directors state the rising cost of food, and the supply chain issues that sometimes makes it hard to get food product all contributed to the way they changed so clients can have a bit of Christmas cheer.
They added as a Board, they have the responsibility to ensure that the organization is financially sound and can provide continuous care to our clients who depend on us, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year.
