Elliot Lake hospital continues with visitor restrictions

By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake’s St. Joseph’s General Hospital is facing a staffing crunch and higher levels of illness like others across Ontario, and to alleviate the situation, is continuing with its visitor restrictions.

Hospital CEO, Jeremy Stevenson, says staff recognizes that contact from family and caregivers contribute greatly to a patient’s quality of life and is making every effort to continue to support safe visiting, while balancing the need to protect the safety of our patients and staff.

He adds as COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses continues to circulate; hospital visitation will remain limited to Essential Care Partners only for the time being.

He says Essential Care Partners are individuals identified by patients or substitute decision makers.

Stevenson adds there are exceptions to the directive in compassionate circumstances, which can be discussed directly with the staff.
