By Rosalind Russell – Espanola’s updated Strategic Plan is expected to be completed by June of next year, but not before there has been input from the community.
This week, Espanola council approved hiring Municipal Planning Strategic Associates, David King and Bill Winegard to carry out the work of coordinating a consultation process that includes input from council, staff, and resident in putting together, first a draft plan to be presented early in the new year and then, final document by June.
CAO Allan Hewitt says the work on a new plan started back in early 2020, but when the pandemic hit, the work was put on hold, and he did not start in his new position until July 2021.
He says the Strategic Plan serves as a community’s roadmap for the goals it has and is designed to be a big-picture document toward a clearly defined vision for the community.
He adds council also agreed to allocate $27,000 for the contract to come out of the modernization reserve with a healthy $400,000 still available to implement the plan.
