Espanola council to delve into downtown businesses concerns with protests

By Rosalind Russell – An Espanola downtown business owner made a presentation to the council last night to express concerns about ongoing Freedom Party protests on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Brenda Lafrance says she and other businesses provided councilors with documentation expressing their concerns about ongoing protests with some people harassing people, honking horns, and being disruptive.

She asked the council if it could investigate the issues by reviewing and/or upholding their bylaws and talking to OPP about their concerns.

Mayor Jill Beer says there will be a staff report made addressing those concerns.

She told Brenda her concerns have been heard and they will deal with the situation by talking to all parties involved including police and other jurisdictions.

The mayor did not say when they would be getting back to the local businesses about the situation.
