By Rosalind Russell – Espanola council is expected to give its approval to the 2022 municipal budget tonight.
Town CAO and treasurer Allan Hewitt says last time council met they asked staff to come back with a zero increase in the budget adding funds could be taken from reserve to do so.
Hewitt says they have pulled $146,000 from reserves to bring in a budget that will give ratepayers a slight decrease, approximately nine dollars for every $100,000 in assessment.
Hewitt adds capital projects include the main water trunk line, splash pad and pickleball courts, water meters, vehicles for various departments, and more.
Hewitt expects council will endorse the budget this evening.
