At a special meeting, members of the Espanola Elks will make the crucial decision as to whether to sell the hall or continue to work towards hosting enough events and applying for grants and other supports to maintain the building.
The hall built 76 years ago is mortgage free, but Exalted Ruler Wanda Ouimette says the members are facing serious difficulties in raising money, not only to maintain the building, but to make some vital improvements.
She says the Elks is receiving some supports from the community and there is an opportunity to see if there could be some financial supports from the higher levels of government.
Ouimette emphasizes if the members do decide to sell the property, the money will be invested back into the community, the members will still maintain their charter and continue working to support local charities and other initiatives, such as the annual Hamper Fund.
The closed members only meeting, will be held this evening.
