SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Friday that, out of an abundance of caution, that both tonight’s and tomorrow afternoon’s games between the Espanola Express and French River Rapids have been postponed.
The postponements come about after it was learned that a someone from one of the teams had been in close contact with a person who had a positive initial result on a COVID-19 test.
With this news, the league made the decision to call off these two games.
“We want to make sure we continue to do the safest and most prudent thing possible in this situation, and postponing these two games is the best and safest course of action,” offered NOJHL commissioner Robert Mazzuca.
“At the current time, no member of either club has had a positive result in testing or showing any symptoms, however, we will continue to encompass an over-abundance of caution on this,” added Mazzuca.
The teams will now enter the provincial and regional Public Health Unit (PHU) regulated quarantine period.
The NOJHL will be announcing further cohort game schedules within the next few days.
Meanwhile, the Soo Thunderbirds and Blind River Beavers are scheduled to meet tonight in Sault Ste. Marie in a 7 p.m. start on HockeyTV.com.
