Face masks are voluntary

By Rosalind Russell – Ontario’s chief medical officer of health is to make an announcement later today, asking us to wear masks while in indoor public spaces.

But Premier Doug Ford says it won’t be mandated.

Ford is also suggesting we all get up-to-date on our COVID-19 and flu shots.

The move comes as children’s hospitals are crowded with young patients suffering from respiratory viruses such as the flu and COVID.

Last week, Toronto’s Sick Kids announced it was cutting back on some surgeries to cope with a large number of patients in intensive care.

The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, in Ottawa, had to move some medical staff from their jobs to set up a second intensive care unit.

Ford says “every single stop” is being pulled out to help increase capacity at hospitals in the province.
