Final good-bye beings for Manitoulin OPP Constable Marc Hovingh

The final good-byes to Manitoulin OPP Constable Marc Hovingh will be held over the next two days.

Today, there will be visitation at Mindemoya Missionary Church from 12:00-4:00 pm & 6:00-9:00 pm.

The public is asked to follow COVID-19 protocols by wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing if they plan to attend to pay their respects.

The funeral service is to be held tomorrow at 1:00 pm at Manitoulin Secondary School in M’Chigeeng and it is by invitation only.

OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson says the service will be broadcast live on Facebook and Vimeo for the public.

Constable Hovingh died a week ago Thursday in a shooting in Gore Bay that also resulted in the death of a civilian.

Hovingh, a 28-year veteran of the force, is survived by his wife Lianne and children Laura, Nathan, Elena, and Sarah.

He was 52.
