Fire destroys residence in Espanola

A residential fire has gutted a home in Espanola.

Espanola Fire Chief Mike Pichor says firefighters were called out yesterday morning around 10:30 am when a fire broke out at a residence on Albert Street.

He says they fought the blaze for about four hours to bring it under control, but he adds he was not able to determine the cause due to excess water in the basement.

Pichor adds the home was insured and he will be inspecting the site today to see if he can determine the cause.

There was no one home at the time and no injuries.
