Manitoulin and East Algoma OPP worked together on the arrest of a driver who was threatening to harm themselves this weekend shutting down Highway 108 in the process.

East Algoma OPP Constable Phil Young says his Manitoulin counterparts notified their office on Saturday morning of a man who was making threats to hurt themselves with a firearm they had in their possession.

He says police quickly located the pick-up truck on Highway 108, but the driver refused to stop for police multiple times and the highway had to be closed for safety reasons.

Young adds several spike belts were used and once the vehicle was forced to a stop, the driver still would not cooperate, and police were forced to breach the car door.

He says a 57-year-old man from Evansville on Manitoulin Island has been charged with flight from police, possession of a dangerous weapon and resisting a peace officer.

Young says the man is to appear in Elliot Lake court November 8th.
