Hughes seeking more funding for First Nation policing

By Rosalind Russell – Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP, Carol Hughes, says First Nation police services are being short-changed.

Hughes says First Nations and the Inuit policing services are funded through  policing agreements between federal, provincial or territorial governments.

She told the House of Commons last Thursday that the federal government has a duty to ensure that First Nations policing is adequately funded to ensure safety within their own communities, but they need more core funding in order to ensure enough officers are available for to provide services.
