By Rosalind Russell – Some 30 elementary students from Chelmsford Valley District Composite School have been learning the ins and outs of knitting, not only to learn a new life skill, but for a worthy cause.
Principal Danielle Williamson says students gather before school and during nutrition breaks to perfect their craft for a purpose, which is to knit blankets for patients battling cancer.
She says every blanket represents a hug for a patient in need, keeping them warm and supported during a difficult time in their lives.
Williamson adds the children will showcase their skills today followed by the presentation of the finished blankets to Tannys Laughren, the director of volunteer services for the Sudbury-based Cancer Treatment Centre.
