Mask requirements

By Rosalind Russell – Ontario’s chief medical officer of health says he’ll know in a couple of weeks’ time whether face mask requirements will be needed again.

Doctor Kieran Moore tells the Canadian Press that he’s closely watching COVID-19 infection rates and hospital admissions as what he calls a “particularly virulent” flu season arrives.

Moore says a key factor will be influenza vaccinations.

He’s urging all Ontarians to get their flu shot now, since the vaccine can take up to two weeks to become fully effective.

Moore says if COVID-19 starts affecting efforts to reduce the surgical backlog, he’ll suggest government recommendations be made about masking in some indoor settings.

If there are more serious effects, he’d recommend reinstating face mask mandates.
