Moratorium wanted by NDP for LU actions

The Ontario NDP is calling for a moratorium on the insolvency process with Laurentian University.

At a Zoom meeting yesterday morning, Sudbury MPP Jamie West and Nickel Belt MPP Frances Gelinas called for a moratorium on the day of completion of the first phase of Friday’s insolvency process.

Gelinas adds cancelling programs like Midwifery, which are revenue-neutral for the university, simply does not make any sense.

She says the promise was made to students their programs would not be affected, but that is not the case with students having to transfer to other universities or lose their funding if they don’t meet certain requirements to complete their courses.
