No funeral for man involved in shooting on Manitoulin Island

The investigation into a shooting in Gore Bay is continuing under the auspices of the Special Investigations Unit.

The unit says both 52-year-old Manitoulin OPP Constable Marc Hovingh and 60-year-old Gary Brohman died on November 17th.

The agency says they exchanged gunfire after police responded to a call regarding an unwanted man on a property in Gore Bay.

They say three civilian witnesses have been interviewed, but had no further information to provide except to state it is unknown when they will release their final report, which could take months.

The family has stated there are no plans for a funeral for Brohman.

Constable Hovingh was laid to rest on Saturday.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or an allegation of sexual assault.

The Unit is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

Officials are also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
