(SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person was charged with drug offences after being stopped at a festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.
On December 7, 2022, at approximately 3:45 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. with the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) at the intersection of Lee Valley Road and Sagamok Road in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.
A vehicle was stopped at the R.I.D.E. and it was determined that the driver was driving while under suspension. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle passenger was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
As a result, Nigel TOULOUSE, 29-years-old from Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (Other than Heroin) contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) (two counts)
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine contrary to section 4(1) CDSA
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on January 16, 2023.
