Public Health Sudbury & District – 33 new cases, Algoma – eight

Public Health Sudbury & Districts reported 33 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the Greater Sudbury area over the last three days.

The health unit says 20 cases were reported late Friday afternoon two at the McDonald’s in Chelmsford, and six at Cambrian College and the rest in households.

Five more cases were reported Saturday, four are close contacts of confirmed cases, and one is unknown.

Of the Sunday cases, six are close contacts of confirmed cases and the remaining two are still under investigation.

Meanwhile Public Health Algoma is reporting eight new cases this weekend, all from the Sault Ste. Marie area with seven attributed to close contact with a positive case and one unknown.

All positives in both districts are in self-isolation.

Provincial health officials are concerned over the rising proportion of positive COVID-19 tests coming back from the labs.

Of the test results filed yesterday, 4.2 per cent were positive, a rate we haven’t seen since May.

There were a record 13-hundred and 28 new cases reported, most in the hotspots of Toronto, Peel Region, and York Region.
