Rainbow Schools take part in Take Our Kids to Work on November 2nd

Grade 9 students in Rainbow Schools will spend the day at work shadowing a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 as part of the national Take Our Kids to Work program.

“On Take Our Kids to Work Day, students have an opportunity to make connections between the classroom and the world of work,” says Bruce Bourget, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board. “This reinforces the importance of working hard and completing a secondary school diploma.”

He adds: “Local employers have an important role to play in preparing their future workforce. The day will serve as a catalyst to engage students in career discussions with adults in various fields.”

Now in its 28th year, the Take Our Kids to Work program provides Grade 9 students with the opportunity to experience the world of work as they begin to explore possible career paths.

Each year, over 200,000 Grade 9 students and some 75,000 businesses and organizations across Canada participate in Take Our Kids to Work day.

The Learning Partnership began the program in Ontario in 1994, and has since expanded to reach students in all provinces and territories. The Student Commission of Canada, a charitable organization that works to empower young people, their peers and communities, will host the annual program in the future.

Students can obtain information about Take Our Kids to Work at area Rainbow secondary schools. Parents of participating students will be required to complete and sign a consent form. Parents should check with employers about any age restrictions for placement.

Employers are encouraged to identify information that students will need to know in advance to ensure a safe workplace visit. All Grade 9 students will receive Workplace Health and Safety awareness training in preparation for their day in the world of work.
