By Rosalind Russell – Ontario Provincial Police say an alarming number of people have died on roads they patrol so far this year.
Sergeant Kerry Schmidt says there have been 239 road fatalities to this point in 2023 and that’s why he’s highlighting the need to be safe when driving going into another busy long weekend.
He says police will be watching for the big four causes of collisions: aggressive driving, impaired driving, distracted driving, and people not wearing their seatbelts.
Schmidt says drivers need to use common sense.
Schmidt adds it’s important for drivers to not follow other vehicles too closely, so they have time to react if something happens.
