Sherwood Park to be Renamed “W.P. Foster Park” in Espanola

By Rosalind Russell – Espanola Council unanimously approved an application submitted by the Espanola Lions Club and family members to rename Sherwood Park as “W.P. Foster Park” in honour of the late William (Bill) Foster.

Lion president Denis Shepitka told council Foster was not only a Lion, but an active volunteer and politician.

He adds Foster sat on many committees, regionally, provincially, and federally.

It was noted Foster’s influence was integral in negotiations with Huron Central Railway to maintain service to Espanola and the Domtar Mill.

Now that council has approved the application, new signage will be approved.

An official dedication will be held in the Spring and a bench in his honour may also be installed at the park.

Foster passed away on June 28th of last year.

He was 73.
