Significant project proposal up for discussion to honour Elliot Lake city notables

By Rosalind Russell – It was a full house at the Mt. Dufour Ski Hill chalet, to hear guest speaker Dave Brunet speak about The Visionaries and Ambassadors of Elliot Lake project to members of the Elliot Lake Historical Society.

He says his vision is to have displays and permanent history of notable people in a park-like setting.

He would also like to propose that Westview Park be renamed to Westview Civic Park, or something along that line.

Brunet distributed copies of a conceptual drawing showed a large rock placed in a vertical orientation with a bronze plaque which would have names added to it.

He would like to see the project initiated soon adding some of his candidates for recognition include the late Claire Dimock who initiated the retirement community concept in the city and the late George Farkouh, the city’s longest serving councillor and mayor who was successful in having the community designated as a city.

Discussions about the project are continuing with plans to talk to the city soon.

The Historical Society will be at the city’s Community Groups Open House at Collins Hall on Saturday, November 4th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On November 8th, the society will host its next regular meeting at the Elliot Lake Royal Canadian Legion.
