Wiikwemkoong enhancing security following safety issues

By Rosalind Russell – There will be increased police and security patrols in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory as well as surveillance following an increase in illegal and/or suspicious activities within the community.

Scott Cooper, the Acting Chief of the Wiikwemkoong Tribal Police Services, says the police service has teamed up with the local Chief and Council and Cancom Security to ensure the safety of property and people.

He says there will be increased patrols daily through the community adding more video surveillance is also being installed at key locations throughout Wiikwemkoong.

The new programs were implemented on January 11th.
