Woman to oversee laws governing unmarked graves

By Rosalind Russell-

Kimberly Murray is now Canada’s first Independent Special Interlocutor  for unmarked graves at former residential schools.

Murray will help Indigenous communities navigate the laws of several jurisdictions when unmarked graves are found.

She will also and will make recommendations to the federal government on how to strengthen current laws and preserve and protect the sites.

Murray said with sites being discovered in different parts of the country it is important to recognize the different barriers and unique challenges each jurisdiction will present.
