Drowning on Vermilion River

By Rosalind Russell – There was a drowning on the Vermilion River this past weekend.

Sarah Kaelas with the Greater Sudbury Police says on Saturday, (August 9th), officers were dispatched to the Vermilion River near Vermilion Falls in relation to a drowning.

She says a group of individuals had been swimming in the area when one man separated from the group and began to struggle while attempting to return.

She adds a community member was able to locate the man under water, jumped in and pulled the man to shore.

Kaelas says resuscitation efforts failed, and the 27-year-old man was pronounced deceased.

She says the name of the deceased is not being released at the request of the family.
